When I lived up north I loved the daffodils. We would have a snow covered ground and these happy yellow blooms would be popping through. The fascinating thing is daffodils take forethought. They are bulbs that need time and cold in order to bloom. Seeds you can see grow in a few weeks but bulbs almost need to be forgotten. Raising children are similar to raising daffodils. Daily we are planting seeds and bulbs in their lives. Some things we will see grow quickly but others may take years to peep out. Sometimes it may be through the snow. That is why Bible memorization is so important. This year my son wanted to go through the Bible in a year. We are on track to finish soon. I listen with my kids so I can answer any questions right then. We have had many wonderful conversations. Right now we are in Revelation. We got to chapter 13 verse 16.
Revelation 13:16 KJV And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads: Immediately my 16 year old daughter started quoting: And thou shalt bind them for a sign upon thine hand, and they shall be as frontlets between thine eyes. (Deuteronomy 6:8 KJV) I had never connected the two verses before but years ago I had the kids memorize Deuteronomy 6:4-12. It always amazes me when the things I have tried to instill in them peak out. It is so important the seeds you plant in your children. They will bloom when you least expect it. It may be peeking out of ground you thought was covered in snow, but one day the bulb you planted will bloom. Keep planting daffodils. Deuteronomy 6:4-12 KJV — Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD: And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might. And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart: And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up. And thou shalt bind them for a sign upon thine hand, and they shall be as frontlets between thine eyes. And thou shalt write them upon the posts of thy house, and on thy gates. And it shall be, when the LORD thy God shall have brought thee into the land which he sware unto thy fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give thee great and goodly cities, which thou buildedst not, And houses full of all good things, which thou filledst not, and wells digged, which thou diggedst not, vineyards and olive trees, which thou plantedst not; when thou shalt have eaten and be full; Then beware lest thou forget the LORD, which brought thee forth out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage.
