So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper [in the thing] whereto I sent it. - Isaiah 55:11 KJV We are blessed in this day and age to have the Bible at our fingertips. I have multiple physical copies of the Bible; plus every smart device I have has a Bible app. We have God’s Word with us wherever we go. The word of God is not just scripture but our weapon. It is what God has given us to guide us, protect us, and for us to defend ourselves against the principalities and powers of this world. Jesus himself used the word of God against Satan when he was tempted in the wilderness. (Matthew 4:1-11) Our world trains us to only believe what we can see. The idea of life after death or the supernatural is made into fantasy and fiction. C.S Lewis has a quote that I love. “ You don’t have a soul. You are a Soul. You have a body.” The world we live in today isn’t lasting and will crumble away, but the world we can’t see is eternal. So with that in mind, our biggest struggles are not caused by what we can see with our eyes. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Ephesians 6:12 KJV If we are not wrestling a natural enemy; we cannot use a natural weapon. We need a supernatural weapon. For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh: (for the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;) 2 Corinthians 10:3-4 KJV For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. Hebrews 4:12 KJV Using the word of God in prayer is one of the most powerful ways we can fight on our knees. Sometimes we can be so burdened we don’t know where to start and that can affect our confidence in our prayer. We can pray scripture with confidence, knowing that it is settled in heaven for all time. Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away. - Matthew 24:35 KJV For ever, O LORD, thy word is settled in heaven. - Psalm 119:89 KJV The concept of praying scripture has fascinated me for a long time. It felt so complicated and intimidating. Still, I had a desire to master this tool and pass it to my children. I have not mastered it but it hasn't been as daunting as I feared. It really is a simple concept: What are you praying about? What does God's word say about it? Claim that scripture in prayer. I have been working on scriptures to pray over my family. Here is an example of what I did for praying over their minds. Thou wilt keep [him] in perfect peace, [whose] mind [is] stayed [on thee]: because he trusteth in thee. - Isaiah 26:3 KJV Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ; - 2 Corinthians 10:5 KJV And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. - Philippians 4:7 KJV Lord, I ask that you keep her mind focused on you. Bring into captivity every thought and fear. Cast down thoughts or feelings that aren’t inline with your plan for her. Keep her mind in perfect peace. I have seen several different ways people used scripture in prayer and this is what was most comfortable for me. Here are some topics and scripture that can help you in your journey praying scripture. ProtectionBut thou, O LORD, [art] a shield for me; my glory, and the lifter up of mine head. - Psalm 3:3 KJV And the LORD, he [it is] that doth go before thee; he will be with thee, he will not fail thee, neither forsake thee: fear not, neither be dismayed. - Deuteronomy 31:8 KJV Because thou hast made the LORD, [which is] my refuge, [even] the most High, thy habitation; There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling. For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways. They shall bear thee up in [their] hands, lest thou dash thy foot against a stone. - Psalm 91:9-12 KJV When thou passest through the waters, I [will be] with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee: when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee. - Isaiah 43:2 KJV MindThou wilt keep [him] in perfect peace, [whose] mind [is] stayed [on thee]: because he trusteth in thee. - Isaiah 26:3 KJV I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, [which is] your reasonable service. From the end of the earth will I cry unto thee, when my heart is overwhelmed: lead me to the rock [that] is higher than I. For thou hast been a shelter for me, [and] a strong tower from the enemy. - Psalm 61:1-3 KJV I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help. My help [cometh] from the LORD, which made heaven and earth. He will not suffer thy foot to be moved: he that keepeth thee will not slumber. - Psalm 121:1-3 KJV But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew [their] strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; [and] they shall walk, and not faint. - Isaiah 40:31 KJV Come unto me, all [ye] that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
